Engagement Ring

Engagement Ring

You’ve been hearing “3a2belak!” for many years, but the time has finally come to buy an engagement ring for your significant other. It is the first step to truly committing, and the first piece of jewelry from you to your bride.
Where do you start? This article will give you a step by step guide to engagement rings, and by the time you’re done reading this, you’ll be ready to buy a breathtaking ring!

The Budget

First things first, set a budget. The main cost of the engagement ring is the center diamond. Any good jeweler can create a ring like a master piece with a realistic budget. The value of a diamond is affected by the diamond’s characteristics, also known as the 4C’s; color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. Any decrease in quality of any of these characteristics means the decrease in the price of diamond.

The C’s To Know

Carat is the unit of weight of the diamond, every 1 carat is equivalent to 0.20 grams. Traditionally the 1 carat diamond ring is the most popular choice, but for a good diamond, don’t go below 0.40 carats. Diamonds are said to be a girl’s best friend, so the bigger the better.

Color scale ranges from D, which is a colorless diamond, to Z, which is a light yellow or brown diamond. The typical color of the diamond on the engagement ring is colorless. We at Karen Boghos jewels offer the whole color range, but for an engagement ring we recommend D to I color.

Clarity ranges from Internally flawless to Included, with variations in between. The most popular clarities are Very Slightly Included (VS1-VS2). Here at Karen Boghos Jewels we prefer not to go below SI1 (Slightly Included) as the imperfections will become visible to the naked eye.

Cut is when you can play around with the diamond’s sparkle. The most popular diamond shape is the round cut, as it gives brilliant diamonds with a sparkle. The cut grades range from excellent, very good, good, fair, to poor. A diamond with a grade good or below is less ideal because the diamond will have a less desirable thickness and minimal reflection and shine.

Ask your jeweler for the diamond’s grading certificate to get an exact evaluation for your stones 4Cs.

Finding Her
Ring Size

Before you make the purchase, you need to know the size of the ring! The moment should be perfect in every way, and she should be saying yes to a ring that fits! It is important that you tell the jeweler her ring size; you can have one of her friends secretly give you a ring she wears in order to size it.

Ring Style

In terms of style of the ring, there’s so many different ways to go, but surely there is one perfect ring for your fiancé to be. The most common settings are the traditional designs; a thin band in white gold with a round solitaire diamond. If she is a classic girl, the traditional design is probably the ring to look for. However, more people are opting out of the traditional design and are looking for a more personalized setting. You can decide on the material of the setting – yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and platinum – the shape of the diamond – round, square, emerald, marquise, pear, or heart – and the setting style, solitaire, solitaire with melee, halo. The sky is the limit!

The engagement ring is one of the most important symbols of commitment. Once you’ve picked out the ideal ring, it’s time to start planning a proposal that will blow her away. Give her a good story to tell!
